Helping exhausted and overwhelmed “Type A” perfectionists manage their anxiety with online therapy

Does this sound like you?

  • You’ve always been a high-achiever. A doer. You’ve been able to get so much done, but it still never feels like it’s enough.

  • You’re compassionate. Making a decision feels overwhelming because you’re worried about how it will affect others. Then, when you do finally make a decision, your brain is flooded with reasons why that may not have been the correct choice.

  • You appear to be successful and calm. But how you feel on the inside is very different. You feel as though you are fighting an invisible battle under the surface. You’re constantly battling the negative self-talk that’s trying to hold you back.

  • You avoid seeing friends or going to social functions. Deep down you know anxiety limits your life, even if others can’t see it. You can do the day-to-day but never go outside your comfort zone.

  • You may or may not be having panic attacks, but what you’re feeling is all-consuming.

  • You’re afraid of failure, of what others think, of disappointing your family. It’s just too much.

You’re not meant to try to navigate this feeling alone.

What is Anxiety?

Anxiety is our brain’s way of creating an emotional response when we feel threatened. It can even cause a physical response and influence our thoughts.

Anxiety is more than just stress or worrying about things that may happen. When it begins to impact our ability to enjoy and be an active participant in life, that’s when it’s time to ask for help.

How does online therapy for anxiety work?

Online therapy, or telehealth, is a convenient way for busy people to access help from a mental health professional without the travel time.

Our online sessions allow for you to meet with me when it is best for you. These meetings may be during your lunch hour, your child’s nap time, and sometimes while traveling.

By eliminating the time it takes to come to my office, you get to keep those precious minutes for yourself.

I find that by offering virtual therapy sessions, my clients are more likely to seek help and keep appointments making their mental health a priority.

What to expect from online therapy for anxiety with me

I only offer individual therapy. For 50-55 minutes, we will have a one-on-one conversation going in-depth about your concerns and goals.

I see my clients as the experts on themselves and I love collaborating with them about how best to help them achieve their goals and create space to live the life they want.

How long will it take until my anxiety is gone?

As with any significant change, growth takes time and effort.

I go at your pace, which means it is hard to answer the question of “How long will this take?”

I typically work with clients on a weekly basis, but frequency can be tailored to your needs and scheduling concerns.

Therapy is a space to explore, learn, and grow.

I only offer individual therapy, so our time together is completely focused on you and your mental wellness goals.

To ensure your privacy during our sessions, it’s important for you to be in a quiet, private space where you and I can speak freely. Make sure you are mentally present by putting your phone on silent, putting a “Do Not Disturb” sign on the door, and consider letting others know you need privacy during that time.

As with any online meeting, make sure you have a reliable internet connection. That way, we are making the most of our time together.

If you are unable to access a private location with reliable internet, you may find in-person therapy to be a better fit. Check out this post about Finding a Therapist who is a good fit for you.

Is online therapy for anxiety effective?

Yes, online therapy is just as effective as in-person therapy. As long as you are able to be mentally present during our time together and in a secure, private location; there is not much difference than if you were to me with me in an actual office.

I would even say online therapy, in many cases, could be more effective than in-person. It is easier for my clients to make and keep appointments without worrying about travel time.

FAQs

  • A 50-55 minute session cost $165. Sessions are paid at the time they occur.

  • No, I do not accept insurance. I would be considered an “out-of-network” provider. I can provide you with a Superbill that you can present to your insurance company for reimbursement if you have out of network benefits.

  • A superbill is a document you can provide to your insurance company to seek reimbursement. The document has information they’ll need, including a diagnosis, session code, and all of my professional information they require (ex. NPI, address, etc).

Let me know if you need one to be provided.

  • There are several reasons why I don’t accept insurance.

First, I feel I can provide better care to my clients when my time is spent working clinically vs. administratively.

Second, I opt to maximize client confidentiality, which can be compromised with insurance companies. When your insurance pays for your treatment, they can demand access to records or require a diagnosis in order to pay for or approve ongoing treatment. This information then becomes part of your medical record.
